Setup and first use:

How do I connect it?

  1. Connect the 220V cable to the power supply socket on the back of the LCD monitor.
  2. Connect the 5V cable to the micro-USB port on the back of the vision chart: the main LED will flash red, yellow, and green and then turn off to show that the device is powered correctly.

How do I mount it on the wall?

  1. Remove the arm on the back of the monitor unscrewing the 4 cross-head screws on its back. Use the same screws to screw the metal plate back on.
  2. After having fixed the dowel in the wall and having made the electrical connections, hang the device like you would a painting on the wall: use the slot on the upper part of the rear metal plate.

How do I turn on the instrument?

It must be turned on with IR remote control. Briefly press the power button on the IR remote control to start the instrument. The main LED will start to flash green to show that the AOC Vision Chart is starting up. The instrument will be ready for use in under a minute.

How do I turn off the instrument?

It is turned off by the IR remote control. Press and hold the power button on the remote control until the screen goes dark. The main LED will flash red for a few seconds and then go off, showing that the instrument is off. The instrument is then ready to be turned on by the IR remote control.

My patient-screen distance is too short. Can I use a mirror?

Yes, no problem. All the tests can be used through a mirror. If you do, you need to set a distance value (Setup, 1st icon) equal to the patient-mirror distance + LCD mirror-screen. Remember to enable the mirror function (Setup, 1st icon).

I do not have a power outlet nearby and need longer cables. What should I do?

You could opt to use a powercube socket to connect both the 220V and the 5V cables. To purchase this accessory add the product code “PWR.1” to your order.

I need to adjust the direction of the AOC. Can it be installed in a corner of the room or on a tilting wall-mounted stand or a floor stand?

Yes, of course. You can use any extendable, tilting bracket to secure a TV/LCD with VESA 75×75 and 100×100 mm support. To purchase the tilting, extendable bracket, add the product code “SUPP.1” to your order.

You can use any floor base to secure a TV/LCD with a VESA 75×75 and 100×100 mm attachment. To purchase the floor base, add the product code “SUPP.F” to your order.

What settings should I make before administering a vision exam?

Measure the distance between the patient’s eye and the LCD screen and set this value in Setup, 1st icon (Distance). That’s all you need to do. PS: If you use a mirror, the distance to be set is patient-mirror + mirror-LCD screen.

Where can I find the user manual and documentation?

The instructions for use, EU Declaration of Conformity, installation guide, and package contents description are on the USB flash drive that comes with the instrument.

What do the two LEDs on the instrument show?

Main LED or power-on LED: the LED on the lower side in the center of the instrument (in models other than AOC-i2x, on the right side on the back of the monitor, near the auxiliary power button), shows the vision chart’s power supply status. This is the instrument’s main LED and it is off when the instrument is off, steady green when the instrument is running, flashing green during startup, and it flashes three times (red, yellow, green) when you plug the 5V power supply into the power outlet.

Secondary LED or display LED: the LED on the lower right corner on the front case of the LCD monitor is only for the display, indicating the power status only for the monitor (not of the entire vision chart). It is amber when the vision chart is off, and it lights up blue (or green, depending on the model) when the LCD monitor is on.

What is the USB flash drive that comes with the instrument for?

The USB flash drive is a special drive that acts as both a memory flash drive and a recovery and software update disk for the AOC.

You can use the USB flash drive to:

  • store PDF reports of driving license exams
  • store graphs with the contrast sensitivity curve
  • update your AOC’s software (Read more in the FAQs)
  • restore your AOC software

What is on the USB flash drive that comes with the instrument?

The USB flash drive contains documentation for the purchased device, the End User License Agreement [EULA], Limited Warranty information, multimedia files to be used with the instrument, and the file for restoring the software.

What is the disk at the top of the instrument?

The disk contains the IR receiver (for controlling the instrument from the remote control or from the IR phoropter) and the Maddox LED. Arrange the disk vertically so that the remote control signal can reach it directly.

Where is the instrument's serial number (SN)?

The product serial number label is on the back of the monitor. Note: The SN should be reported when requesting assistance. The same number is also on the instrument’s packaging box.

Where is the version of my AOC Vision Chart shown?

Go to the Setup window, go to the 7th icon, “Product Info,” and read the version of the software and hardware currently installed on your device.

What is the instrument's Ethernet connector for?

The ETH connector, located in the central part on the lower side (in models other than the AOC-i2x it is at the top back of the monitor), is used to print on a network printer or to connect the internet network cable for technical support to remotely access the instrument in case of malfunctions or the need for updates.

Advanced settings and functions

How can I create a custom test program?

Press the P key to access the customized program. Hold down the P key for 3 seconds to enter the customization mode. Follow the instructions that appear at the bottom of the screen to input only your preferred tests in the sequence you want. The Remote Console makes this customization easy.

What reports can be created with the instrument?

With the AOC Vision Chart, you can create a report of the vision exam (with the result of the tests for visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, twilight vision, glare sensitivity, and photostress recovery time), which is also a valid eyesight report driver licensing purposes and the contrast sensitivity test curve graph (Gabor patches).

Keep the USB flash drive inserted in a USB port of the AOC while executing the driving license exam or the Contrast Sensitivity Test. The results will be saved at the end of the test on the USB flash drive.

Can I receive the report files without using the USB flash drive?

Yes, you can receive the report files through Bluetooth on your Android smartphone or your PC (Windows or Linux). The files will be automatically sent to the paired device at the end of the test.

To use this function, pair the AOC with your device through Bluetooth (BT).

This function is not available for Apple devices (Mac, iPhone, …).

What is the purpose of pairing the AOC Vision Chart's Bluetooth?

Pairing the AOC with your Android smartphone or your PC (Windows or Linux) by BT is used to automatically receive the PDF report of the driving license and the graph of the contrast sensitivity curve, as soon as these data are available. Pairing need only be done once and then the files are sent automatically. Once you have received the files via BT on your device you can easily manage them in various ways, such as forwarding, storing, and printing them.

How can I pair the AOC with my device by BT?

Make BT visible and accessible on your device. Then, from the AOC setup menu, go into the fifth icon “Report” and start pairing (option 3/5). Follow the directions that appear at the bottom of the AOC screen.

Can the reports be printed?

Yes, the instrument can automatically send reports to the printer as soon as they are generated. To use this function, you must have a WiFi-compatible or network printer (see user manual).

How do I set up the network or WiFi printer?

With the network cable inserted, access the Setup window, select the 5th icon and start the printer search by pressing the start button from the 4/5 option, “Network Printer.”

How do I choose the right model? Which is the best AOC Vision Chart?

All AOC Vision Charts are designed to be excellent digital vision charts. There is no “best” AOC but there is an AOC Vision Chart that best meets your needs. Here are some tips to choose the right model for you:

  • If you are a professional who mainly works outside the studio in different locations, choose the AOC-Mobile.
  • If you use the MKH method or if you frequently use stereo and binocular tests, consider the AOC Pola.
  • If you have a refraction room with reduced patient-screen distance (<4 meters), consider the AOC-23. If the distance is more than 6 meters, opt for the AOC-27 or AOC-i27.
  • For all other cases, the AOC-i24 is the right model for you.

Can I add the Console to control my AOC later on?

Yes, no problem. if you already have an AOC Vision Chart equipped with only IR remote control, you can add the Remote Console at any time. Send us your AOC’s serial number [SN] and you’ll get a compatible Console ready to go.

I would like to add the Remote Console. How can I see if my AOC Vision Chart is BT or WiFi type?

You should choose a Remote Console with the same communication technology as your AOC. Communication with the Remote Console is BT type for 4th Gen AOCs and WiFi type for 3rd generation AOCs. The symbol (WiFi or BT) that appears in the lower left corner of the HOME window screen identifies the model. BT models also have a BT logo label applied to the back of the instrument and the packaging box.

Is it compatible with the digital phoropter?

Yes, it is compatible with some digital phoropters that communicate with the AOC Vision Chart via Bluetooth or infrared. Get in touch with us for more information.

How do I access the monitor's OSD settings?

The instrument is delivered with the monitor’s OSD settings already calibrated. It is strongly recommended that you not modify these calibrations, which could make for contrast and brightness values that render the eye exam less precise or inaccurate.

For the AOC i24 and AOC-i27: hold the ENTER key down: after 10 seconds, the message “OSD unlocked” will appear on the screen. Now you can access the screen parameters.

How much can I save on my energy bill?

Our AOC Vision Charts consume as little as 30W. If you consider that they are usually kept on all day and may last more than 15 years, the savings on your energy bill are certainly far from negligible.

How do I receive a demo unit?

A demo/evaluation unit is available only for ophthalmic distributors interested in distributing EyeNext products. To request a demo unit please contact us.

Who can see how my AOC Vision Chart is used? What about privacy?

We accept no gray areas on this point. The answer is: no one will see how you use your AOC Vision Chart! The instrument does not track the use you make of it; it does not collect data, and no data is transmitted to anyone from the vision chart you have purchased. We do not see you and your work as products to be tracked for business.

Troubleshooting

When you turn it on, the message “no signal” appears on the screen and after a few seconds, the screen goes dark.

Check that the 5V power supply (external, white) is working correctly and that the micro-USB connector is inserted properly on the back of the instrument. Check that when plugging the external power supply into the power outlet, the main LED flashes red, yellow, and green which indicates that it is powered correctly.

Check that the HDMI video cable is correctly inserted (only for models other than AOC-i24 and AOC-i27).

When it turns on, nothing appears on the screen and the display LED on the front stays off.

Make sure the power switch on the screen (the one near the lower right corner of the monitor, next to the display LED) is in the ON position. This switch must always be kept in the ON position.

Check that the 220V power supply is received correctly.

The instrument is running on its own.

You have probably accidentally activated the DEMO mode used to demonstrate the product during trade fairs. Press and hold the home button for 3 seconds to deactivate the DEMO function.

Can I upgrade the AOC to the latest generation?

Yes, no problem. We can pick up your old AOC and return it with the hardware and software aligned with the latest generation. You can benefit from all the new innovations at a very low cost. Contact your distributor for more information.

The instrument is not responding to the IR remote control.

Check that the IR remote control batteries are not dead or leaking. If possible, use an IR remote control with another AOC to check that it is actually the remote control that is defective. If available, use the Remote Console to make sure the AOC is fully functional.

The IR remote control isn't working well.

Vertically orient the disk on the upper edge of the AOC Vision Chart, which contains the IR receiver. Important: Some older-generation tubular fluorescent lamps are known to emit IR radiation. Although AOC Vision Charts are designed to be installed and operated in brighter environments, some fluorescent lamps may disturb IR reception.

I have to ship it but I did not keep the original packaging. What should I do?

Order new packaging or construct your own suitable packaging. Be aware that the goods are transported at your risk.

How long does the warranty last, and what does it include?

The electronic motherboard has a 5-year warranty, and the other parts have a 2-year warranty. The terms of the warranty are given in the document on the USB flash drive that comes with the instrument.
