What's the difference between the NOC and the Remote Console?

The NOC (Near Ophthalmic Chart) is the near digital chart, and the Remote Console (also referred to as just Console) acts both as a control tablet for the AOC and as a near chart. The two devices have different product codes, NOC8 and Console8, respectively. The Remote Console is only needed if you have an AOC Vision Chart.

What is the long key on the top edge of the tablet for?

The long key can be pressed on the left (+key) or the right (-key). The + key displays a popup with information (model name, software version) and functions (change language, software update, change communication channel with the AOC Vision Chart). The – key lets you switch from the control function to the near vision chart function (available only for the Remote Console).

How do I switch between the AOC control function and the near vision chart?

In the Remote Console (unlike the NOC) both the “AOC control” and “digital near vision chart” functions are in the same tablet. Locate the long key on the top edge of the tablet and press it to the right to switch between functions.

Where can I find the user manual and documentation?

Product documentation is available on the micro-SD card inserted in the tablet slot. Remember to re-insert the micro-SD in your tablet after consulting the needed documentation.

What is on the micro-SD inserted in the tablet?

The micro-SD contains documentation for the purchased device, the End User License Agreement [EULA], Limited Warranty information, and the software license. The micro-SD must always be kept inserted in the micro-SD slot of the tablet during its operation. The micro-SD is also used to perform software updates for the NOC/Remote Console.

How can I tell if the Console is a BT or WiFi type?

Go to the information popup (press the + key) and read whether the communication channel with the AOC is Bluetooth or WiFi type. The BT consoles, the latest generation consoles, also bear a label with the BT symbol on the back of the tablet and on the packaging box.

How long does the battery last? How long does it take to charge?

Battery life is approximately 4-8 hours (standard-maximum). Battery life is intended for continuous operation of the instrument. It takes about 2–3 hours to fully charge the tablet.

Where is the instrument's serial number (SN)?

The product serial number label is on the back of the monitor. Note: The SN should be reported when requesting assistance. The same number is also on the instrument’s packaging box.

Where do I see which software version is currently installed?

Press the + key (from the main Console or NOC application window) to access the popup and read the software version.

Settings

How do I connect the Console to the AOC Vision Chart?

BT console (for AOC 4th Gen): if the pairing message appears on the tablet screen, just tap on “Pair”; otherwise, start pairing from the AOC Setup window, 2nd icon, option 3, by pressing the “start” button on the IR remote control. Note: pairing needs to be done only the first time (or when you change console or communication channel), and it lasts forever.

WiFi console (for earlier AOC generations): turn on the console and the AOC and wait for connection.

How do I set/change the communication channel between the AOC Vision Chart and Remote Console?

The process is the same for the 4th generation instruments (which communicate via BT) and the previous generation ones (with WiFi technology). From the AOC Setup, 2nd icon, choose the communication channel. From the Console, press the + key to access the popup and choose the same communication channel previously chosen for the AOC.

If it does not connect automatically within 30 seconds, start the pairing from the AOC Setup window, 2nd icon.

How can I update the NOC/Remote Console software?

  1. Download the update for your device model from the Reserved Area. Important: The file name must not be changed.
  2. Copy the file you downloaded to the micro SD (it comes already inserted in the slot of the tablet). Insert the micro-SD card into the correct slot on the tablet edge.
  3. With the main application window displayed on the tablet, press the + key (the long key on the upper left edge of the tablet) and start the software update. The automatic update will start and finish after a few seconds.

Other

Can I add the Console to control my AOC later on?

Yes, no problem. if you already have an AOC Vision Chart equipped with only IR remote control, you can add the Remote Console at any time. Send us your AOC’s serial number [SN] and you’ll get a compatible Console ready to go.

Can I use the AOC Console and IR remote control at the same time?

Yes, no problem. You can use the IR remote control to control the AOC Vision Chart and use the Remote Console even just to keep an eye on the patient’s monitor, which makes running the vision exam easier and faster.

What precautions should be taken to prolong the life of the battery?

Lithium-ion batteries have a predetermined useful life, a maximum number of recharges, and an efficiency curve which, like all batteries, declines with use and the passage of time. Multiple factors can shorten battery life. Some important tips for proper use include: do not leave the tablet with an empty battery; do not leave the tablet off with USB devices inserted; always use the original charger. Follow all the instructions in the user manual to extend the useful life of the batteries.

Troubleshooting the BT Console

The Bluetooth console is not connecting to the AOC Vision Chart

Check that your AOC Vision Chart is the Bluetooth type (BT). BT-type AOCs have the BT logo on the bottom left of the screen and a BT label applied to the back of the instrument.

Check that both devices (Console and AOC) are set to communicate on the same communication channel.

Start pairing from the AOC Setup window, 2nd icon, option 3, by pressing the “start” button on the IR remote control. Press “Pair” on the tablet to pair the two devices.

Troubleshooting the WiFi Console

The WiFi console does not connect to the AOC Vision Chart.

Make sure your AOC Vision Chart is WiFi-type. WiFi-type AOCs have the WiFi logo on the bottom left of the screen.

Check that both devices (Console and AOC) are set to communicate on the same communication channel.

Check that the AOC WiFi is not already set up to connect to the WiFi printer: from the AOC Setup window, 2nd icon, option 4, set “Console, Printer” to give the Console priority.

Change the WiFi channel on both the AOC and the Console and wait for the connection.

Occasional difficulty connecting or disconnecting to the WiFi-type Console.

Your working environment could have unusual levels of WiFi interference caused by other non-compliant devices (routers, access points, video surveillance cameras, etc. that exceed the established emission limits): check that the other WiFi connections in the same location work without slowing or stopping. Check that communication between the AOC and the Console is working properly in another room. Note: You can request a high-power WiFi module to be connected to the USB port of the AOC Vision Chart. This will not eliminate possible environmental interferences but it could help solve the problem.

When it is finished loading, after turning it on, a popup appears with the words, "Do you want to change the default write disk?" What should I do?

Ignore this message and press Cancel. Contact technical support to permanently remove this message.
